I just watched the Book of Eli and I have to say I am impressed.
The twist at the end of the movie made it decent, but I did learn something from the movie that I thought it was a good reminder....be on a mission and often the mission is about walking by faith and not by sight.
For a lot of us, we are on a path of searching and questioning. Sometimes we do not know where to go ie Career paths, investments, relationships and maybe perhaps just LIFE in general is tough.
The last couple months I kept reminding myself and asking myself this question: Have I been faithful to the gifts and talents God has given me? Have I been on a mission? Or simply AM I THE BEST ME? Not that an image I made up in my mind but rather AM I DOING THE BEST I CAN DO RIGHT NOW IN MY SITUATION? Otherwise I am just a lazy bum.
All you have to do is just pick it up and start walking....when we tinker with our decisions it paralyzes us. Just go!
Recently I got involved in a ministry, and it was a blast. John Piper, the pastor at Bethlehem Baptist Church once said "God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Him" and that God's highest pursuit ("his glory") and man's deepest and most durable happiness come together in one pursuit – namely, the pursuit of joy in God. Through this ministry I learned to serve people in a different way. Now I want to stay away from the Pharisaic expression of "Hey look at me I am so holy because I am serving people..." I only want to use my experience as an example on pursuing something I wanted to do for a loooooong time and finally did it. Serving in that ministry allowed God to soften and soothe the certain sore spots in my life and I often need to get out of my comfort zone. I feel serving people is just one of many ways for us to be on a mission with God. This mission will require us to talk to Him, traveling with Him and be used by Him.
Back to the movie...there are some gruesome scenes in this movie but overall, Eli (Denzel Washington) fought well and he was faithful to his mission.
Until next time! Be on a Mission :)
